of life and education in new places.....

So here i am enjoying my relaxing walk to town as i wait for my next lecture.Well the joy was only short-lived.A man old enough to be my father or even grandfather walks up behind me and reaches out to touch me.Having sensed his presence long before i had seen him i ducked sideways to avoid him.Boy oh boy was he frusrated .Went on and on ranting and raving about nothing i could understand. All i could make out was,"sisi....blah blah blah blah ,,,blah blah". So being the non-South African I am i wasn`t bothered .As much as he thought he had told me off,i didnt hear a thing. So practically he was speaking to himself.

I don`t know what it is that people here in Grahamstown do not understand. The community is completely aware of the fact that there are so many people from diverse backgrounds learning at rhodes but sometimes they are ignorant when it comes to the thiings that matter. Some seem to think that if i am black ,then surely i must be South African. They go as far as to start addressing you in their language( which i must say is hard to understand)without giving you the chance to explain why you cannot answer them.

Rhodes is one of the places where people from different countries come to learn. So at least the community should not expect every black person to automatically be Xhosa or Zulu.
